Happy Halloween From GOPWTF!

I’d think twice before eating any candy from her. They’re getting desperate.

“Bill Clinton, Give It Up!”

October 30, 2008

It has come to my attention that a lot of people missed last nights midnight rally speeches given by Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Probably because they were at MIDNIGHT. They are not to be missed. Catch them below divided into 5 parts. Amongst all the awesomeness spoken one thing sticking in my mind the most is when  Obama said “Bill Clinton, Give It Up!” Talk about change.

It’s About The Children

October 30, 2008

The United States doesn’t fair so well in securing the well-being of our children. When you have people like WFTV anchor Barbara West who criticized Joe Biden for trying to turn the US into Sweden. As if that was a bad thing, we should be so lucky. Sweden is at the top of all quality of life and well-being charts. I guess you can teach people, but you can’t make them think.

Take a look at this study on the well-being of children in wealthy nations. Like Barack Obama said, we need to focus on stopping teen pregnancy. The United States has more than 45 births for every 1,000 girls aged 15 to 19. Significantly higher than any other OECD nation.

I don’t think we are going to solve this problem by teaching abstinence only sexual education and restricting access to birth control as the McCain team and particularly Sarah Palin has promoted.

You Can Vote However You Like

October 29, 2008

How bout a bit of fun that will put a smile on your face. Kids from the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta Georgia performing a parody of TI’s “Whatever You Like” live on CNN. There version is entitled “You Can Vote However You Like.” It’s funny because every time I hear this song on the radio I think at one point they’re saying “I want Joe Biden”. I guess they didn’t hear it.

Alaska Planning War With U.S.?

October 29, 2008

The GOP sure is good at turning out creepy ads with spooky music and ominous subtitles. Thankfully the Obama camp has chosen the high road. With the help of the internet we the people can do our own dirt digging and “ad” making.

Not a Serious Campaign Effort

October 29, 2008

When I look at how the McCain campaign has been run, it seems like a half-hearted effort. Even John McCain seems to be uncomfortable or even embarrassed by it at times.

So the question is, is McCain the disposable candidate the GOP felt they could sacrifice in a year they felt they didn’t have any hope of winning?

With the President’s approval so low and the country sliding into a deep recession, the chances for any Republican candidate were slim. Conventional wisdom is that an individual only has a few shots at running before they are considered inviable. He lost out in 2000 and at the age of 72 this is his last chance to run.

Perhaps the choice of Palin wasn’t so much a radical choice, as it was the only one left for him.

The Economics of it

October 28, 2008

When I look at the two candidates and their economic policies, I see two very different strategies. There is nothing that is radically new in each of their plans, but we have seen each of the strategies played out during different times of our nation’s history. Whether you label them Reagonomics, New Deal, Supply Side or Keynesian, what it comes down to is the idea of supply side growth or demand creation.

These two strategies have significant differences when it comes to how the wealth is distributed. What constitutes an equitable distribution of wealth in this country is and what our moral obligation to it is, I suppose, a question for each of us to answer for ourselves. There is always a cost to be paid for living in a society such as ours. There is always so much anger over taxes, but investing in the country is not a bad thing. It is the way that money is spent that is troublesome. Take for example a trillion dollar war that has crippled the country, made it substantially less safe and which John McCain plans to pursue in perpetuity.

So let’s talk about basic economics. Tax reduction for the wealthiest individuals and for corporations has a supply side effect. This was Reagan’s approach, and it seems to be John McCain’s as well. He often states he is a Reagan Republican. What he has laid out of his economic policy generally reflects the Reagonomic, Supply-Side economic views that were so disastrous during the 80’s. Supply Side policy failed to produce anything other than a greater disparity in wealth and an enormous deficit. In my estimation, the real influencer on growth is demand creation.

‘Blah blah blah’ WTF!

October 28, 2008

Nuclear power in general does scare me. I know if  done correctly it can be safe, but I think with the brilliant scientific minds in the world we can find a better solution. I know I wouldn’t want anyone I know and love to live anywhere near a Nuclear power plant. Perhaps I saw Silkwood at too young and impressionable an age, but everybody knows messing with atoms can be catastrophically dangerous. It shouldn’t be taken lightly. In this clip McCain mocks Obama’s discretion over executing nuclear power safely. I want a President that will thoroughly assess everything he stands by and that should include the questions “is it safe”, and “is it safe for the environment”. I don’t think the words “safe” and “environmental” should ever be connected with “blah, blah blah”.

My Friend & Barack

October 28, 2008

A friend of mine, who I had the great fortune of getting to know while working together when I was in high school, recently posted a “note” on Facebook where I learned she had just lost her beloved brother in Afghanistan. In the “note” I also learned that she had just met Barack Obama as well. Her note was very moving, and I asked if I could share it here with the GOPWTF readers. My friend is currenly working very closely with a really huge name in the entertainment industry. She refers to him as “her boss”, and I have omitted his name, replacing it with [B.]

Turns out, I really do have the best boss ever.

I returned to work this week and what a week it was. Working has been good for me. Bittersweet, since performing seems to be the opposite of everything I’m feeling right now. Hard to do something I normally love, since it requires happiness and enthusiasm. But I digress…

Everyone has been so amazing. On Wednesday, someone mentioned that Barack Obama would be in town on Saturday for a rally at a highschool. All of us in this camp have been very involved in the election process this year. (many differing opinions and fiery personalities make for GREAT conversation) Read the rest of this entry »

Skinheads Plot To Kill Obama Averted

October 27, 2008

Daniel Cowart, 20 of Bells, Tennessee

Federal agents have broken up a plot by two neo-Nazi skinheads to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or decapitate 102 black people, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives said today.

In court records unsealed today in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn., federal agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target a predominantly African-American high school in a murder spree that was to begin in Tennessee. More HERE…

Alaska Newspaper Endorses Obama

October 27, 2008

The top newspaper in the home state of Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has endorsed Democratic candidate Barack Obama for president. Alaska’s largest-circulation paper, the Anchorage Daily News, said state governor Mrs Palin was “too risky” to be one step away from the presidency. More HERE…

Biden and a “Robohost”

October 26, 2008

Heads up: It may appear the lady interviewing is some sort of right wing robohost, or that the following clip is from sort of fake show, but this is an actual interview. Biden at one point asks her, “Are you joking, is this a joke, or is that a real question.” Huffington post has a great commentary on this interview including a link to a clip of the same interviewer with McCain.
